NIED CONTROL SOFTWARE INSTALLATION PROCEDURE	BKT 19-May-04

Note:	In the following, "XXX" means DLG, DOC, SVX, SVY, SVZ, or TBL,
	depending on the context.

1) Install operating system.

	Name the computer "hostXXX".

2) Set up the ethernet network adapter that connects to the PowerPC.

	a) Select Start/Settings/Control Panel/Network Connections. Locate the
icon for the built-in Ethernet adapter. Sometimes it is difficult to
determine which icon is the built-in adapter and which one is the second
	   Ethernet adapter--- be careful.

Change the name for the built-in Ethernet adapter to "Lab Network
	   Connection".

Double-click on the icon and hit the Properties button. Fill in the
	   necessary information, according to taste.

	b) Select Start/Settings/Control Panel/Network Connections. Locate the
icon for the second Ethernet adapter. Sometimes it is difficult to
determine which icon is the second adapter and which one is the built-in
	   Ethernet adapter--- be careful.

Change the name for the built-in Ethernet adapter to "MTS Controller
	   Connection".

	c) Double-click on the icon for the MTS Controller Connection and hit the
Properties button. Fill in the necessary information, as follows:

		Ethernet Adapter Configure...
			Network Speed: 100Mbps
			Duplex Mode: Half
			Power savings: off
		Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) on
			Use the following IP address:
				IP address: hostIPXXX (see Note)
				Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
				Default gateway:	(blank)
				Preferred DNS server:	(blank)
				Alternate DNS server:	(blank)
				Advanced...: (ignore)

Note: Use the value hostIPXXX listed in Network.dat.

3) Install Internet Information Service.

	a) Go to Control Panels, Add/Remove Programs, and select

		Add/Remove Windows Components

	b) Select Internet Information Services (IIS), press the Details...
button, and deselect all components except

		Common Files
		File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Server
		Internet Information Services Snap-In

4) Copy MTS software to each host PC.

Make a folder at the top level of drive C: named "niedXXX".

For DLG, DOC, SVX, SVY, and SVZ, copy into folder niedXXX:

		bin folder, which contains:
			a2d_53.out
			coops.o
			d2a_53.out
			d3vd_53.out
			duc_53.out
			ducb_53.out
			enc_53.out
			startXXX.vxc
			Simulation.exe (used for simulation only)
			Supervisor.exe
			vxSocket.o
			vxWorks
			vxWorks.sym
		niedXXX.exe
		CalibrationXXX.cal
		SettingsXXX.set
		Network.dat
		NetworkSim.dat (used for simulation only)
		Table.dat
		ppcDebug.ht (used for debugging PowerPC)

For TBL, copy into folder niedTBL:

		bin folder
		Diagnostics folder
		Documents folder
		Kinematics folder
		Matlab folder
		niedCON/IND/TBL/TRN.exe
		CalibrationIND/TBL.cal
		SettingsIND/TBL.set
		BareTable.set, HalfWeight.set, MaxWeight.set, Warmup.set
		Network.dat
		NetworkSim.dat (used for simulation only)
		Table.dat
		ppcDebug.ht (used for debugging PowerPC)

4) Set up Internet Information Services (IIS).

Change FTP Publishing Directory to "c:\niedXXX\bin".

5) Set up the PowerPC boot parameters.

	a) Attach the serial debug cable between the PowerPC and the COM1 of
	   the host PC.

	b) Double click on ppcDebug.ht to start the HyperTerminal terminal
emulator program. Note that ppcDebug.ht is a HyperTerminal document
in which the communication parameters have been set up as follows:

		Bits per second:	9600
		Data bits: 8
		Parity: None
		Stop bits: 1
		Flow control: Xon/Xoff

	c) Reboot the PowerPC with CTRL-X.

	d) Hit any key immediately after reboot sequence begins (the operative
word here is "immediately"; if you are a little slow it doesn't work).
   	   The "[VxWorks Boot]:" prompt appears.

	e) If desired, type "p" to view current settings.

	f) Type "c" to change.

	g) Cycle through parameters, typing:

		<CR> to leave unchanged
		"." <CR> to erase
		<modification> <CR>	to modify

	h) When done, the PowerPC parameters should look like this
(values shown are for the PowerPC for SVX):
